4 Bloody Christmas Movies To Get You In The Spirit Of The Season

A magical time of year, Christmas is full of joy, giving, family, and, of course, movies. There are many great movies set around this holiday, as well as many not so great ones. Most of these movies follow a similar path, with heartfelt or funny events taking place, but there are also times when things aren't so friendly.

It doesn't matter whether it's a classic Christmas movie about a child fending off burglars, a Christmas-themed slasher flick, or a reinvention of Santa Claus, there are so many great Christmas movies that are bloody and violent. Let's explore the darker side of this holiday together!

The Violent Night (2022)

It's up to Santa Claus to save the day and take down the bad guys during a holiday gathering when a group of mercenaries take a family hostage.

David Harbour stars as a disillusioned Santa, ready to give up on Christmas, who finds himself caught up in a home invasion robbery in this surprisingly excellent Christmas action movie. With amazing action scenes, insane kills, a great score, and some of the best myth building ever done, Violent Night shines brightly in a mix of Die Hard and Home Alone. Everyone needs to see this holiday classic.

The Black Christmas (1974)

During winter break, a group of young college girls receive creepy, threatening phone calls from their sorority house. They soon become the targets of a murderer who has gained access to their home.

According to urban legends about the babysitter and the man upstairs, and on a series of murders that took place in Canada, Black Christmas has become one of the best horror films of all time, as well as one of the earliest slasher movies, even inspiring John Carpenter's Halloween in the process. As Jess, the film's 'final girl', Olivia Hussey delivers an extraordinary performance. Margot Kidder also delivers a great performance before she plays Lois Lane in Superman.

The Christmas Tale: Rare Exports (2010)

When a group of hunters discover hundreds of reindeer slaughtered by what they assume are wolves, they band together to hunt their biggest prey yet... Santa Claus himself.

Rare Exports is a more slow-burn, character-driven film than most in the holiday horror genre, but it is executed exceptionally well. It is based on two short films, Rare Exports, Inc. from 2003 and Rare Exports: The Official Safety Instructions from 2005. This film serves as almost a prequel to the shorts, setting up how these guys came to start their Santa-selling business. It's an extremely underrated film that needs more attention.

Advent Calendar (2021)

The Advent Calendar tells the story of a paraplegic woman named Eva receiving an old German advent calendar, but when she begins opening it, strange things start to happen, and if she doesn't follow its rules, this could be her last Christmas.
