5 Facts About Psychological Horror Movie Possession (1981)

1. The director had his previous film On the Silver Globe shut down by the Polish Government. Soon after his wife had left him. All of this led him to come up with the idea for Possession.
2. The director had pitched this to Paramount as “a film about a woman who fucks an octopus”.
3. For the subway scene actress Isabelle Adjami was instructed to “fuck the air”.
4. Special effects artist Carlo Rambaldi had to essentially create the monster in the film overnight. He had just worked on Close Encounters of the Third Kind for Spielberg and got used to having a lot of time to work. When he showed up to set he asked the director
when they were shooting the monster and he was told tomorrow. He and a crew worked overnight with what they called “pink condoms” to create the monster in the film.
5. The movie was cut down by about 45min for the US release and it was incorrectly marketed as a horror film which the director does not feel it is.
