1. This one of four movies with Maniac in the title for William Lustig. In addition to the two
Maniac Cop sequels, Lustig also directed previous episode Maniac.
2. Within the last five years both a remake and TV series have been rumored but nothing
official has come of them yet. The TV series has Nicholas Winding Refn, director of
Drive, as an executive producer.
3. Both Bruce Campbell and Robert Z’Dar both have the nickname of “The Chin”.
4. Robert Z’Dar seems to have made a career out of playing cops or other uniformed
professions. Of his 122 credited roles at least 14 are officers, Sergeants or Detectives
including the role of Killer Cop in Destination Vegas. He also appeared in the now cult
classic Samurai Cop, Hollywood Cops and Rock and Roll Cops 2: The Adventure
Begins.
5. William Lustig’s last movie as a director was the similar Uncle Sam also written by Larry
Cohen about a soldier killed by friendly fire who comes back from the dead to kill
unpatriotic people. He has since gone on to form the DVD/Blu Ray label Blue
Underground which distributes his older films as well as many other exploitation/horror
classics.
